Important Facts about Transfer Request

What is the purpose of the Transfer Request form?

The Transfer Request form allows the remaining coverage of a service contract to be transferred from the original owner of a motorcycle to a new owner. This is applicable when the motorcycle is sold to an individual, not a dealer or broker. Completing this form ensures that the new owner can continue to enjoy the benefits of the service contract without interruption.

What are the requirements for submitting a Transfer Request?

To successfully submit a Transfer Request, several important steps must be followed. First, the request must be submitted within 30 days after the motorcycle has changed ownership. Second, a transfer fee of $25 must be included, payable to the Harley-Davidson® Service Center. Additionally, the new owner must acknowledge receipt of all necessary repair orders and receipts from the original owner, confirming that the motorcycle has been properly maintained according to Harley-Davidson's guidelines. Lastly, the new owner must also receive written verification that any remaining factory warranty has been transferred to them.

How do I complete the Transfer Request form?

Completing the Transfer Request form involves filling in specific details accurately. You will need to provide information such as the date of the transfer, the addresses of both the original and new owners, and the vehicle identification number (VIN) of the motorcycle. Additionally, both the original purchaser and the new owner must sign the form, indicating their agreement to the terms outlined. Once completed, the form should be mailed to the Operations Department at the Harley-Davidson® Service Center, along with the required payment.

What happens if I do not submit the Transfer Request within the specified time frame?

If the Transfer Request is not submitted within the 30-day window following the change of possession, the service contract may not be valid for the new owner. This could result in the loss of coverage and benefits that would have been available under the contract. It is crucial to adhere to the timeline to ensure that the new owner can take full advantage of the service contract's protections.

Common mistakes

Filling out the Transfer Request form can be straightforward, but many people make common mistakes that can delay the process. One frequent error is not submitting the form within the required timeframe. The instructions clearly state that the Transfer Request must be submitted within 30 days after the motorcycle changes possession. Missing this deadline can result in the request being denied.

Another mistake involves the payment of the transfer fee. The form requires a check for $25 made payable to the Harley-Davidson® Service Center. Some individuals forget to include this payment, which can halt the transfer process entirely. It is essential to double-check that the check is attached before mailing the form.

Completing the sections of the form is also crucial. Many people neglect to fill out all required fields, such as the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or the contract number. Incomplete forms can lead to processing delays, so it is important to provide all requested information accurately.

Signatures are another area where mistakes often occur. The new owner must sign the form to acknowledge receipt of the necessary repair orders and the remaining factory warranty. Failing to sign or having the wrong person sign can invalidate the request. Each party involved should ensure their signature is present and correct.

Additionally, some individuals overlook the importance of verifying the transfer of the factory warranty. The new owner must acknowledge that they have received written verification of this transfer. Without this acknowledgment, claims related to the factory warranty may not be honored, leading to potential financial loss.

People sometimes misinterpret the instructions regarding the submission process. The Transfer Request must be mailed to a specific address: the Operations Department at the Harley-Davidson® Service Center. Not following these mailing instructions can result in delays or misdirection of the request.

Lastly, individuals may not keep a copy of the completed form for their records. It is wise to retain a copy of the Transfer Request, along with the check, for future reference. This can be helpful in case any issues arise during the transfer process.

When transferring a motorcycle service contract, several additional documents are often required to ensure a smooth process. Each of these forms plays a vital role in verifying ownership and confirming the details of the transaction. Here’s a brief overview of the commonly used documents alongside the Transfer Request form:

  • Service History Records: These records include all maintenance and repair documents related to the motorcycle. They help the new owner understand the vehicle's history and verify that it has been properly maintained.
  • Warranty Documentation: If the motorcycle is still under warranty, this document outlines the terms of the warranty. It is essential for the new owner to know what is covered and for how long.
  • Insurance Policy Information: This includes details about the motorcycle's insurance coverage. The new owner may need to contact the insurance provider to update the policy or obtain new coverage.

  • Affidavit of Ownership: In some cases, this document may be needed to confirm that the seller has the legal right to sell the motorcycle. It helps protect against disputes over ownership.
